The Waring contributes to the education and cultural fabric of the Coachella Valley by providing school wide recitals and hands on experiences by classroom. Competition contestants and prize winners return to the schools. We also bring valley students to the Competition rounds, conduct outreach to youth and senior community centers, and provide free or low-cost concerts to the public. Once the pandemic hit in March of 2020, all outreach had to stop, as all live concerts were cancelled in the state.
We did do some Online Webinars – Mondays at the Waring, and a live performance at CVREP in June of 2021, with Victor Shlyakhtenko.

We also travel directly to schools, bringing in Steinway concert grand pianos, if the school doesn’t have a proper instrument. And we always tune the piano! Outreach recital venues include elementary, middle and high schools. Since 2008 when the Waring began these outreach assemblies, Competition winners have performed for over 10,000 local students in all three local school districts. Study guides with program information, artist bio, composers’ bios and a glossary is made available to classroom teachers. Evaluation sheets are also given to the district or principal.
During the 2013-2014 school year, the Waring presented four assemblies reaching approximately 1400 students from the Palm Springs and Desert Sands Unified School Districts. The Waring pays for buses to bring students to large venues such as the Palm Springs High School Auditorium and to the Helene Galen Performing Arts Center at the Rancho Mirage High School.
The Sunnylands Center & Gardens in Rancho Mirage partnered with us in January of 2014, to present a student outreach assembly and a low cost concert open to the public.
