Repertoire Requirements

PRELIMINARY SCREENING ROUND

NOT TO EXCEED 20 MINUTES OF PERFORMANCE TIME

SUBMITTED VIA RECORDED PERFORMANCE

  1. Any Prelude and Fugue of J.S. Bach from Well-Tempered Clavier, Books 1 or 2
  2. A virtuoso etude, chosen from Chopin, Liszt, Scriabin, or Rachmaninoff
  3. A contrasting solo piece, other than a composer chosen from those listed above in 1 and 2. Complete single movements are acceptable.

LIVE ROUND 1 – Maximum 25 Competitors

1. 1st or last movement only, chosen from one of the following classical sonatas:

  • Any Haydn Sonata
  • Any Mozart Sonata
  • Beethoven Sonata No. 1 in F Minor, op. 2, no.1
  • Beethoven Sonata No. 2 in A Major, op. 2, no. 2
  • Beethoven Sonata No. 3 in C Major, op. 2, no.3
  • Beethoven Sonata No. 4 in E Flat Major, op. 7
  • Beethoven Sonata No. 5 in C minor, op. 10, no. 1
  • Beethoven Sonata No. 6 in F Major, op. 10, no. 2
  • Beethoven Sonata No. 7 in D Major, op. 10, no. 3
  • Beethoven Sonata No. 8 in C Minor, op. 13 (Pathetique)
  • Beethoven Sonata No. 9 in E Major, op. 14, no.1
  • Beethoven Sonata No. 10 in G Major, op. 14, no. 2
  • Beethoven Sonata No. 11, in B Flat Major, op. 22
  • Beethoven Sonata No. 12 in A-Flat Major, op. 26

2. Any complete romantic or impressionistic solo piece as represented by Schubert, Schumann, Chopin, Liszt, Brahms, Debussy or Ravel.

3. A contrasting solo piece, other than a composer chosen from 1) and 2) in Live Round 1. Complete single movements are acceptable.

 

Repertoire from Preliminary Screening Round may not be repeated in Live Round 1 or 2

LIVE ROUND 2 – 13 Competitors

NOT TO EXCEED 35 MINUTES

  1. Any solo work written after 1945.
  2. A slow, lyrical piece, similar to a Nocturne or Intermezzo (subject to approval by PSIPC Artistic Committee)
  3. A contrasting piece, other than a composer chosen from those listed in 1 and 2 (above) in Live Round 2. Complete single movements are acceptable.

Repertoire from Preliminary Screening Round may not be repeated in Live Round 1 or 2

SEMI-FINAL ROUND – 7 Competitors

One complete movement of a concerto (see concerto selections below) with second piano accompaniment. Jury will determine the movement to be performed following Live Round 2. PSIPC will provide a pianist for the accompaniment.

FINAL ROUND – 4 Competitors

A complete concerto, to be performed with the PSIPC Festival Orchestra, chosen from the following:

  • Mozart Concerto No. 9 in E-Flat Major, K. 271
  • Mozart Concerto No. 20 in D Minor, K. 466
  • Mozart Concerto No. 21 in C Major, K. 467
  • Mozart Concerto No. 27 in B-Flat Major, K. 595
  • Beethoven Concerto No. 1 in C Major op. 15
  • Beethoven Concerto No. 2 in B-flat Major, op. 19
  • Beethoven Concerto No. 3 in C minor, op. 37
  • Mendelssohn Concerto in G Minor, op. 25
  • Schumann Concerto in A Minor, op. 54
